Analysis on the Pattern of Communication and Concern of Dental Hygienists

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the pattern of conversation and counselling through the CMC among the dental hygienists, analyze the types of their concerns, and provide basic data necessary for taking the measures that could promote the communication among the dental hygienists and offering specific psychological services to dental hygienists.

Methods: The writings related to the counselling and replies, posted on the internet cafe and blogs offering the counselling for dental hygienists, were analyzed based on their detais.

Results: The pattern of concern could be divided into the concern about the competence, interpersonal relationship, working environment, career, job change, and work-sharing. In relation to the concern about competence, the
questions about the know-how/expertise related to the diagnosis and treatment accounted for 18.1%, the highest proportion, followed by the low-level diagnosis and treatment compared to the number of years in service, which comprised 6.7%. In addition, there was the concern about the stimulation of the operations of the hospital in terms of the revenue of hospital. Secondly, the pattern of communication was characterized by the honest expression of the psychological state and the desire to fulfill the motive for the sense of belonging to the organization as the arena for the information provision, interaction, social support and self-reflection.

Conclusions: The psychological services, offered to dental hygienists through CMC, may become a type of solution with respect to the study that examines the factors leading to the job stress and dissatisfaction. Thus, it is necessary to show more positive interest in promoting the communication through CMC as part of the measures to enhance the working environment and satisfaction of dental hygienists.
